Festival Booths

We thank our diverse community fair participants who hosted a booth at the Hapa-palooza Festival 2011 launch with 4 distinct events over 4 days celebrating mixed heritage through literature, film, dance, music, art, and even magic!

Gung Haggis Fat Choy Robbie Burns Day Chinese New Year,
a wildly popular event in Vancouver and beyond celebrates the fusion of Scottish and Chinese culture.  Founder Todd Wong helped inspire Hapa-palooza at this event, and continues to support the celebration of all things mixed!

Mixed in Canada (mixed-me.ca), is a place where all Canadians of mixed-race heritage can come to learn, share and be inspired by fellow mixed Canadians.  Meet founder Rema Tavares who “always dreamed of creating a space where mixed people from across Canada could come together and form a community”.  Rema will be hosting a booth and taking pictures of ‘Mixies’ who want to be featured on her website.

Nikkei Place,
The National Nikkei Museum & Heritage Centre’s mandate is to promote a better understanding and appreciation by all Canadians of Japanese Canadian culture and heritage; and an awareness by all Canadians of the contribution of Japanese Canadians to Canadian society, through public programs, exhibits, services, publications, public use of the facilities and special events.

OneMatch Stem Cell and Marrow Network is responsible for finding and matching volunteer donors to patients who require stem cell transplants. Fewer than 30 per cent of patients who need stem cell transplants find a compatible donor within their own family. The rest rely on those who have volunteered to donate stem cells to anyone in need.Because Canadian Blood Services’ OneMatch is a member of an international network of registries, we can also search more than 11 million donors on over 50 registries in other countries. By agreeing to make their donor data available worldwide, international registries have significantly increased the odds of being able to find a matching donor for any patient, anywhere in the world.  OneMatch was at Hapa-palooza in the Square on Sat. Sept. 10th, 2011.  There people helped save lives by registering and agreeing to be swabbed for finding matches for bone marrow.  Participants eligible to join were between 17 and 50 years old and met certain health criteria.

Rabbitfoolpress, is an innovative publishing and editorial consulting company that specializes in working with new writers. We foster creativity primarily through our popular writing workshops.  Meet founder, Brandy Liên Worrall-Soriano has been a professional writer and editor for 15 years. She is the co-creator of “Too Mixed Up” and “All Mixed Up,” publishing works by over 70 writers and artists from the U.S., Canada, the Philippines, and Japan.

Ricepaper Magazine, is a national quarterly magazine devoted to showcasing Asian Canadian artists, writers, performers and innovators, published by the Asian Canadian Writers’ Workshop who sponsored the launch of the Hapa-palooza Festival 2011.

Vancouver Observer draws upon contributions from its vast pool of writers to provide timely, topical coverage on issues that concern its target audience – Vancouver citizens. From city politics to climate change, celebrities to immigrant issues, the Vancouver Observer provides independent local coverage that fills the gap left by large, corporate-owned media.
